2019 FLIP News
Future Leaders in Planning (FLIP) is a pilot program created by CDRPC to introduce high school students to opportunities and challenges in Planning launched on Monday to great success in collaboration with the Clean Technology and Sustainable Industries program. Students from the Capital Region Pathways in Technology Early College High School program (P-TECH), a high school to college program that introduces and trains students in technology related fields, will spend the week learning about planning and visiting sites throughout the region that teach about different aspects of planning. The program began Monday with presentations from Michael Franchini of the Capital District Transportation Committee and Todd Fabozzi from the Capital District Regional Planning Commission regarding the importance of Transportation and Sustainability planning throughout the Capital Region.
Students then enjoyed a tour of GlobalFoundries, where the students got to learn more about public-private partnerships and tour their amazing facility. Thank you for a great experience for the students!
On Tuesday, FLIP had a jam packed day, starting with a tour of downtown Saratoga Springs with Principal Planner Susan Barden, who showed a number of development sites and explained the planning process of those projects.
Students then hopped on CDPHP Cycle bikes after a presentation by CDTA, in which students learned the importance of providing various transportation options to residents. Then headed to Pitney Meadows Community Farm, where they were given a tour of the facility and learned about the benefits of community farms and protecting greenspaces in communities.
