2023 Population Estimates Released by the US Census

The U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Estimates Program recently released their 2023 population estimates for Cities and Towns.

As of July 1, 2023 there were an estimated 930,101 people living in the Capital Region, which is up by 966 people or by 0.10% from July 1, 2022. In 2023, the five largest municipalities in the Capital Region are:

  • City of Albany, Albany County: 101,228
  • Town of Colonie, Albany County: 85,591
  • City of Schenectady, Schenectady County: 68,544
  • City of Troy, Rensselaer County: 50,607
  • Town of Clifton Park, Saratoga County: 37,788

The five municipalities that grew the most between 2022 and 2023 are:

  • Town of Milton, Saratoga County: 597 (3.19%)
  • City of Cohoes, Albany County: 350 (1.96%)
  • City of Albany, Albany County: 344 (0.34%)
  • Town of Rotterdam, Schenectady County: 171 (0.56%)
  • Town of Colonie, Albany County: 149 (0.17%)

Between 2022 and 2023:

  • 27 Capital Region municipalities grew. 
  • 3 Capital Region municipalities stayed the same. 
  • 49 Capital Region municipalities lost population.
