Capital Region Housing Affordability Study
The Capital District Regional Planning Commission (CDRPC) has released a report analyzing renter and homeowner affordability in the four counties served by CDRPC: Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady.
The analysis uses data from Bureau of Labor Statistics (BLS), US Census, Congressional Budget Office (CPO), Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), Hudson Valley Patterns for Progress, National Low Income Housing Coalition (NLIHC), and Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis (FRED).
The study examines the gap between renters’ wages and the fair market rent for a one- and two-bedroom apartment in the Capital Region. This report also analyzes county-level housing affordability for homeowners by comparing the median price of a house to what an individual or couple can afford to purchase based on their median income.
