IRS Data Shows that Most Migrants are from NYS

The 2021-22 data from the Internal Revenue Service (IRS) indicates that migration between counties in New York State is more common than migration to and from other states. In fact, The Internal Revenue Service (IRS) releases yearly data on migration within the United States. This data is derived from changes in individual addresses year-to-year, obtained from tax returns filed with the IRS. From this data, migration patterns across the United States emerge, providing insights into both inflows and outflows from states or counties by the number of individuals, households, and adjusted gross income.
