CDRPC Partners to Expand Digital Access Across the Capital Region

The Capital District Regional Planning Commission (CDRPC) is partnering with United Way of the Greater Capital Region, the Upper Hudson Library System, Schenectady County Public Library, and the Southern Adirondack Library System to expand digital access and digital literacy opportunities.

Through a $100,000 investment, the partnership will improve access to affordable technology devices, provide low-cost internet solutions, and strengthen digital navigation resources for residents in rural communities across Rensselaer, Schenectady, and Saratoga Counties.

Participating libraries will serve as trusted community hubs where residents can access technology resources, receive digital literacy support, and gain assistance navigating online services. The initiative is designed to help bridge the digital divide by ensuring more residents have the tools and skills needed to participate fully in today’s increasingly connected world.

“Reliable internet access and digital literacy are essential for education, employment, healthcare access, and civic participation,” said Mark Castiglione, Executive Director of CDRPC. “By partnering with United Way and our regional library systems, we can connect more residents with the resources they need to thrive in today’s digital environment.”

The initiative will support expanded access to laptops, tablets, internet connectivity, and hands-on digital instruction through participating libraries. These efforts build on the libraries’ longstanding role as trusted community resources and help ensure that residents facing barriers to technology can access the support they need.
