Climate Mitigation & Adaptation Planning

Building sustainable communities involves both mitigation and adaptation. Join this session to learn the ways in which your community can mitigate emissions and adapt to climate impacts. This session will include presentations from Todd Fabozzi, Capital District Regional Planning Commission, and Jim Yienger, Climate Action Associates, who will discuss the Regional Climate Action Plan. Neil Bettez from the Hudson River Estuary Program will discuss adaptation planning.

Importance of Native Plants

Kristopher Williams, CCE Saratoga, Invasive Species Coordinator for the Capital Region PRISM, will provide basic and effective management strategies to control and treat invasive species in your yard. Integrated Pest Management (IPM) will be highlighted as a leading approach toward increased resiliency. This will be followed by Megan Myers, Manager, Rensselaer County Soil and Water Conservation District, who will discuss the importance of Native plants in creating sustainable and resilient landscapes and how the Soil and Water annual plant sales provide residents access to valuable native plants.

Building Local Capacity for Conservation

Discover how conservation advisory councils (CACs) and environmental commissions support local land use decision-making, conservation, and quality of life for residents in their communities. This session will cover committee roles, funding opportunities, and technical assistance, featuring Christine Vanderlan from the Hudson River Estuary Program and Lauren Oertel from the Capital District Regional Planning Commission. Attending committees will be invited to share their work briefly.
