Capital Region ReUse Center

This project was developed through the Capital District Regional Planning Commission and The Capital Region Transportation Council’s Technical Assistance Program in partnership with Zero Waste Capital District and the Town of Bethlehem. This StoryMap created for this project provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of waste management and the circular economy in the Capital Region. It also explores the potential for establishing a reuse center in the area, analyzing optimal locations for its development. This approach can be adopted by other regions or organizations looking to assess and improve their own waste management systems and circular economy strategies.

The Capital Region is positioned to transition toward a circular economy, characterized by a system in which waste is repurposed as a resource, promoting local economic development and community resilience. This initiative aims to facilitate the implementation of reuse strategies, increase access to affordable goods, and expand workforce development opportunities in the reuse sector. Explore the barriers, opportunities, and potential location for a reuse story in the ArcGIS StoryMap below.
