CDRPC Launches Regional Economic Recovery Dashboard

March 30, 2021 (Albany, NY)  The Capital District Regional Planning Commission (CDRPC) announced the release of an important new tool for Capital Region government leaders, business executives and the general public to track the pace of economic recovery as the Nation, New York State and the Region emerge from the economic impacts of the COVID Pandemic.

COVID Economic Recovery Dashboards are available on CDRPC’s website .

The CDRPC COVID Economic Recovery Dashboard features important economic indicators   which compare current data to pre-pandemic levels.  Dashboard users will be able to chart the impact of the pandemic  and also track  the  pace of economic recovery in real-time. The Economic Recovery Dashboard features data on changes in employment by sector, small business activity, consumer credit card spending, and impacts to mobility and migration.

The CDRPC COVID Economic Recovery Dashboard was developed with CARES Act funding with input for indicators coming from CDRPC as well as other regional partners.  CDRPC contractor EImpact will update the dashboard regularly.

The Dashboard provides economic data for the entire four-county Capital Region and provides specific economic data for Albany, Rensselaer, Saratoga, and Schenectady counties. Each Dashboard features graphs that can be easily embedded into other websites or reports. The underlying data can also be downloaded for each dataset. The Dashboard uses a variety of data sources including the US Census and Emsi Economic Modeling data, which is a private Labor Market Analysis data company.

“Being able to track where we are in terms of unemployment, transportation, and other important indicators is essential to understanding where we have been affected the most by the pandemic and what further assistance is needed to help the region grow back even stronger,” said Michael Stammel, CDRPC Chairman and Chairman of the Rensselaer County Legislature.  “Having this data easily accessible to regional partners and county leaders will be crucial for decision making moving forward.”

Congressman Paul D. Tonko said, “This new Economic Recovery Dashboard is a powerful tool that will help guide our local economic developers and elected officials as we work together to build back our economy even stronger than before. My thanks to CDRPC for their enduring leadership and vision. They are truly a valuable resource for our region.”

Albany County Executive Daniel McCoy said, “This new dashboard is a great tool that will allow us to track economic recovery and help inform economic development efforts in Albany County and beyond.  It clearly shows how the pandemic affected a variety of economic sectors and will help us understand the shape of economic recovery as we emerge from the pandemic.

Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin said, “The next several months will be crucial in charting a course for economic recovery from the pandemic. Rensselaer County is ready to assist our partners and businesses in getting back on track, and we appreciate CDRPC assembling this valuable resource for those working to return to prosperity.”

Saratoga County Board of Supervisors Chairman Theodore Kusnierz said, “We are very appreciative to have this useful information accessible to our private and public sector decision makers as we look to move Saratoga County and our Capital Region forward.  Kudos to the CDRPC for initiating and executing this important project.”

Schenectady County Legislature Majority Leader Gary Hughes said, “The dashboard focuses data about employment, small business activity, and housing in ways that will enable counties to track our recovery and predict emerging issues resulting from the impact of Covid-19.”

Additional data resources can be found on CDRPC’s website and census data indicators for every county, city, town and village within the eight-county region are located at
